Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Warriors split weekend action with Gryphons and Badgers as win streak snapped at 9

The Warriors women's hockey team split their weekend action with the Guelph Gryphons and Brock Badgers, watching their win streak end at nine games, an incredible run for the black and gold.

On Friday night in Guelph, the Warriors extended their win streak to nine as they defeated the Guelph Gryphons 2-1 in a shootout. Leah Herrfort (Palmerston, ON/) scored the lone goal in regulation on a beautiful shorthanded effort for her league leading eighth tally of the season while Carley Olivier (Sudbury, ON/) scored the lone goal in the shootout on a perfect deke to the backhand to lift Waterloo to victory. In net, Kara Mark (New Hamburg, ON/) came in for an injured Mikayla Schnarr (Waterloo, ON/) making 11 stops while turning aside all three Gryphon shooters in the shootout.

On Saturday night, Brock handed Waterloo their first loss of the season in a 1-0 victory. The only game of the game came in the third period on an unfortunate break for the Warriors that ended up on the stick of Catriona Cormier who slid the puck into the empty net. The Warriors threw everything they had at Brock's netminder Tiffany Hsu but could not beat her as she turned away all 23 shots faced.

The Warriors will be back on home ice Friday night against the Western Mustangs (3-6-1) at 7pm before battling the Toronto Varsity Blues (6-2-0) on the road Saturday night at 7pm.
