The Department of Athletics and Recreation is excited to introduce the new Warriors Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Fund that will be the focus on Giving Tuesday (November 29) where all donations will be matched (up to $6,000).

The new EDI Fund was developed to help create a campus where everyone belongs, and where we all work toward equity while striving for a culture of authentic inclusion, even when it is complex and challenging. These steps are vital in ensuring every student, student-athlete, coach, and staff member feels supported and valued.

Gifts to the Warriors Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Fund will support efforts to address under-representation and equitable access to on campus experiences through enhanced programming, training and education, student-athlete support, and community initiatives.

This critical fund will support equity work including initiatives led by the Athletic Alliance who are focused on creating positive systemic changes through recognition, education towards and action against racism. In addition, it will support awards such as the new Black or Indigenous Heritage Student-Athlete Bursary which provides additional financial support to student-athletes.

Matching Donors:

Rob Logan (BSc '82) and Benjie Thomas (BA '98) are both proud Warriors Football alumni and have joined forces to generously provide the matching gift for this Giving Tuesday challenge.

Rob - "Waterloo helped form me, and as I have been blessed with the capacity to give back, I felt it was important to help people who may not have had the same support and encouragement I enjoyed. I hope my involvement in Athletics and Recreation's important new diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives can help level ALL playing fields."

Benjie – "I am grateful for the education, experiences, and lifelong friendships that I made during my time at Waterloo. As a Warriors Football alum, I am especially happy to be able to give back a fraction of what I received from the athletics community. Sport has the incredible ability to bring people together, but first we need to ensure it is an inclusive space that promotes teamwork and opportunity for all."
