Brand new fitness equipment ready for use within Athletics Facilities

The Department of Athletics and Recreation is excited to announce that brand new fitness equipment has been delivered and is ready for use at both the CIF and PAC (once SLC/PAC Expansion is completed). Equipment within both facilities had reached its end of life and new and improved fitness apparatuses were needed to better serve the fitness needs of our student population.

"It is very exciting to see brand new state of the art fitness equipment going into both the CIF and PAC," said director of athletics and recreation, Roly Webster. "Our students deserve this after enduring the lockdowns for the past 15 months. We hope this new equipment brings a smile to their face as we enter Step 3 of the government's reopening plan and what we hope is a permanent stage of returning to normalcy."

Athletics performed an RFP in early 2021 accepting multiple bids to outfit the brand new 20,700 square foot PAC fitness centre and replace equipment throughout the 6,000 square foot CIF fitness centre. Matrix Fitness that is part of the Johnson Health Tech Group was chosen as the supplier that will provide dynamic performance and sleek design, expanded functionality, and lasting durability. In addition, Matrix Fitness has made a commitment to regular servicing, providing asset management tools and tracking use support, scholarship support and customizability.

"We are very pleased to be partnering with Matrix Fitness, a well-known and very reputable company for fitness equipment," said strength and conditioning coordinator, Stacey Majaury. "Seeing the equipment being delivered with customized logos and colours has been such an uplifting feeling for our team and I can't wait for our students to start trying it out once we reopen for good."

Overall, there have been 27 treadmills and 14 ellipticals delivered to the PAC and CIF that feature wi-fi enabled consoles with an app-based interface that mirrors familiar smartphone and tablet operating systems, making it easy for users to connect to the content that keeps them moving. In addition, there are new dumbbells, plates, racks and platforms, and selectorized strength machines.

"Matrix Fitness is very pleased to partner with the University of Waterloo in the supply of the new fitness equipment," said Matrix Fitness vice president of business development, Greg Lawlor. "At Matrix, our mission is to contribute to human health. To accomplish this goal, we must find leaders in the communities who feel the same. University of Waterloo is one such leader, and it is a tremendous privilege to partner with them to execute on this mission."

The equipment is all in place in both facilities and ready for use at the CIF as we enter Step 3 of Ontario's reopening plan. Reserve a time in the CIF Fitness Centre today!
