It had been 621 days since the Warriors women's hockey team laced up for a regular season game, and on Wednesday the black and gold finally hit the ice in a Battle of Waterloo to open up their 2021-22 season.
The Warriors came out flying with three goals in the opening twenty.
Brooklyn Cole (Kitchener, ON/) got the party started with the first goal of the season for Waterloo at 8:38 of the opening period.
Krystin Lawrence (Tecumseh, ON/) got the first assist while
Megan Fergusson (Kitchener, ON/) registered her first career Warriors point with the second apple.
Under three minutes later, the Warriors made it 2-0 on the powerplay as Lawrence took as pass from
Carley Olivier (Sudbury, ON) in the slot and ripped it over the left shoulder of the Golden Hawks netminder Cohen Myers.
Trisha Cho (Mississauga, ON/) made it a 3-0 game with under three minutes to play in the first with assists going to
Keiara Raitt (Ancaster, ON/), her first point as a Warrior and
Elizabeth Lenardon (Kelowna, BC/).
The Golden Hawks got one back in the middle frame but the Warriors carried the play the remainder of the game, hitting four posts throughout but couldn't get another past Myers as the black and gold skated to the 3-1 victory. Overall Waterloo outshot the Hawks 35-14.
The two will be back at it on Saturday at the CIF Arena with puck drop slated for 7pm. Catch the game live on OUA.tv.
