The Warriors men's volleyball team faced Western for the second and third time this season in a home and home series with the Mustangs coming away with a home victory and road loss. With the split the Warriors are now 2-3 on the season and sit in a tie for second spot with Brock, Windsor and Western in the ultra-competitive OUA west standings.
On Friday the Warriors played a very clean match winning in four sets (25-14, 21-25, 25-23, 25-19). The black and gold were led by rightside
Liam MacArthur (Cambridge, ON), who again had an outstanding match at the PAC with 15 kills on 29 attempts while adding four blocks and an ace.
Bennett Newell (Brussels, ON/) was also on fire with 13 kills, seven blocks and two service aces. At the net it was an absolute block party for
Siraj Khanna (Surrey, BC/)Â who led all players with 11 blocks as Waterloo put up 30 blocks in the match.
Matthew Lee (Pickering, ON/) led the way defensively with six digs and
Colm Guyn (Lethbridge, AB/) was solid with 39 assists and four blocks.
On Saturday, it was a different game as Waterloo could not establish the same net presence as Friday night's match at the PAC. The black and gold only had three blocks total as they lost in three straight (18, 19, 17) to Western. MacArthur was the leading point getter for Waterloo with 15 points on 14 kills and one block. Guyn finished with 17 assists in the loss.
Waterloo will wrap up 2021 with their first regular season road match at McMaster next Saturday at 3pm.Â
