Liam Sutherland is the newest member of the Waterloo Warriors Baseball program. The 6-foot-3 outfielder has officially accepted his offer of admission, commiting to the Warriors and bringing his considerable talents to a fast-rising program that will look to challenge for an OUA championship in 2020.

Sutherland, a Mississauga-native and Brantford Red Sox (IBL), arrives via transfer from Humber College (OCAA), where he left a significant mark playing for the Hawks. In 2017, Sutherland was named a league All-Star in addition to earning the "OCAA Player of the Year" award, as the league's most valuable player. He then followed up his stellar 2017 season with two more all-star appearances for the Hawks in 2018 and 2019. A career .389 (average)/.477 (on-base)/.502 (slugging) for the Hawks, Sutherland saved his best season for last, posting an absurd .424/.493/.559 line in 2019.

Along with his physical ability and individual impact on the field, he brings a history of winning, having been a key contributor to back-to-back 2018/2019 OCAA Provincial Championships and the 2018 NCBC National College Championship team where he was once again named an All-Star. Warriors Head Coach Ben Norris (Waterloo) is excited about what Sutherland can bring to the table.

"Liam is an exceptionally gifted player, a proven winner, and the kind of person that will very quickly earn the respect of his teammates and coaches," said Norris. "With his extensive track record of excellence playing in a strong OCAA program, we're confident that he can immediately jump in and be one of the top outfielders in the OUA."

Sutherland's toolset is one that will complement and fit right into an already strong offensive lineup. His ability to contribute excellent defense in the outfield makes the addition that much more exciting. "Liam will be a top defender and will give the top of our lineup another all-around weapon," Said Norris.

Sutherland will be pursuing a degree in Recreation and Sport Business and spoke about his excitement to not only join the Warriors Baseball program but the university as a whole, "I am excited to have the opportunity to attend and play baseball for the University of Waterloo," said Sutherland. "The reputation of the Recreation and Sport Business program, as well as the direction of the baseball program, intrigued me to pursue this opportunity. This is a very exciting time, and without my family, friends, past coaches and teammates, this wouldn't be possible."

As the Warriors look to win their first OUA Baseball Championship in program history, the addition of Sutherland certainly should bring them one step closer to achieving that goal.

"We are very excited to welcome Liam to the Warriors Baseball Program!," Said Norris.
