For the first time in program history women's hockey has collected the OUA Player of the Year award as leading scorer and fifth year vet
Taytum Clairmont (Waterloo/) received the top award on Wednesday. Clairmont who led the league in scoring was also named the top forward and an all-star. Joining Clairmont is rookie goaltender
Mikayla Schnarr (Waterloo/) who was named to the all-rookie team.
Clairmont was outstanding for the black and gold all season long scoring 11 goals and 17 assists for 28 points, leading all OUA scorers and is the first Warrior to win the scoring title. Clairmont was key to Waterloo's special teams which ranked first in power play goals with 17 and had the best penalty kill in the country, operating at 96 percent.
Clairmont was named the U SPORTS Female Athlete of the Month in November, a month where she scored nine times and added five assists, leading her Warriors to a 6-3-1 record. She also scored a highlight reel, between the legs beauty on a brekaway that was featured on both Sportsnet and TSN.
Schnarr was outstanding in her first season between the pipes for Waterloo, finishing with a 11-6-0 record and the sixth best save percentage at .936. Her goals against average of 1.81 was eighth best in the OUA while her 455 saves was ranked fourth. She also had three shutouts on the season.
"I am very proud of both Taytum and Mikayla for the seasons they had," said Head Coach
Shaun Reagan. "Both are very deserving of these awards. Taytum was simply outstanding for us and played big minutes in all situations while Mikayla showed she will be one of the top goaltenders in our league for years to come."
