Sarah Rettinger (Kitchener/) scored a natural hat trick in just 3 minutes and 21 seconds including two goals in 10 seconds as her Warriors blanked the visiting Queen's Gaels 5-0 in a penalty filled affair on Friday night at the CIF Arena. Overall the Warriors made 12 trips to the box while Queen's was penalized 11 times for a total of 57 in penalty minutes.
It was a tightly contested affair between the two with the Warriors leading 1-0 for the majority of the game before Waterloo's offence exploded for four goals in the final seven minutes including three from Rettinger and one from
Courtney Simpson (Sebringville/).
"When it rains it pours," said Head Coach
Shaun Reagan. "Retty [Rettinger] has been playing solid for us but just hasn't been rewarded with the goals. That sure changed in a hurry and I was very happy to see them go in for her."
Heading into the game, Rettinger had two goals but she more than doubled that input with her three tallies.
Also scoring for the Warriors was
Brooklyn Cole (Kitchener/) who got the games' first goal at 9:25 in the first and Simpson who provided key insurance for the Warriors at 13:05 of the third before Rettinger went off.
Not to be outdone was a solid performance by
Mikayla Schnarr (Waterloo/) between the pipes with 19 stops, including some big ones on two 5-on-3's that the Gaels received. She now leads the OUA in wins with 11 and has three shutouts to her name.
The Warriors battle Ontario Tech in their second to last game of the season today at 2:30pm.
