Pye scores twice in Battle of Waterloo victory

Box Score Emma Pye (Oshawa/) scores two power play goals on Thursday night to lift the Warriors to a crucial 3-1 Battle of Waterloo victory over Laurier on Thursday night at the Memorial Rec Complex.

Three points was the only thing on the mind of the Warriors and that is exactly what they came away with to improve their record to 12-7-1 on the season. Their 34 points has them tied for third in the OUA standings.

"This was a must win game for our team and we came out flying," said Head Coach Shaun Reagan. "We got two big goals early on and were able to hold on for the victory."

Hannah Street (Shoal Lake/) scored the games opening goal just 3:34 into the opening period. Street threw a seeing eye shot on net that eluded Laurier keeper Cohen Myers. It appeared Jayda Sachs (Warman/) may have got a stick on it but was never confirmed by the official. Courtney Simpson (Sebringville/) picked up the helper on the goal. Emma Pye (Oshawa/) made it 2-0 on a similar play, this time on the power play. Brooklyn Sarnovsky (Courtice/) one-timed a point shot that Pye got a piece of to make it 2-0 Warriors after one. Pye added her second of the game at 8:34 of the middle frame, once again deflecting home a Sarnovsky shot on the PP. Laurier got one back early in the third but Mikayla Schnarr (Waterloo/) and the Warriors shut the Hawks down the rest of the way to earn the 3-1 victory.

Waterloo will now be on home ice for their final four games of the season, starting this Saturday at 2:30pm against Guelph.

Battle of Waterloo Update: With the win the Warriors now lead the series 8-5-3!
