Warriors host Mustangs in 2020 season opener

The 2020 OUA Football Schedule was released on Wednesday afternoon with the black and gold slotted in to open at home in August for the third straight year. Waterloo will kick-off their 2020 campaign at Warrior Field against the Western Mustangs on Sunday, August 30.

In years past, this would have been a scary sight seeing the mighty Mustangs walking into Waterloo on Week 1 but not anymore. Last season, Waterloo lost to the Mustangs in two games by a combined nine points including their early October matchup where they had them on the ropes but lost on a last second field goal. Their OUA semifinal playoff match with Westen was just a few big plays away from going there way.

Week 2 doesn't get any easier as the Warriors travel down Highway 7 to battle Guelph at Alumni Stadium, a team they haven't beaten since 2005 but have shown they are ready to end this drought in the last couple of seasons.

Week 3, the Warriors return to Warrior Field for the annual Black and Gold Day game on September 12 before closing out September on the road at Toronto on Week 4 (Sept. 19) and then back home Week 5 (Sept. 26) against McMaster for Black and Gold Alumni Day.

The Warriors take on York (Oct. 3) on the road, Windsor (Oct. 9) at home before having their bye week and then closing out the season with the always anticipated Battle of Waterloo on October 24 across the Street at University Stadium.

""I like this schedule, we certainly hit the ground running hosting Western week 1," commented Head Coach Chris Bertoia.

"Our team is motivated for the 2020 season. Every game is important, the goal and focus will be to come out of the gate flying and begin our 2020 season 1-0. Every week will be a challenge and provide exciting games with the parity in the OUA. I can't wait to get our 2020 season rolling!"
