Warriors go 2-1 in interlock play

This weekend, The Waterloo Warriors faced off against Carleton, York and Queens, going 2-1 in exciting, meaningful OUA interlock play.

Waterloo 10, Carleton 6

In the Saturday night affair, the Warriors faced off against the Carleton Ravens. RHP Jorden Carthy (Kitchener/) started for the Warriors, and dealt early on, retiring six of the first seven batters he faced, baffling opposing hitters.

It was a scoreless game until the third inning when in the top half, the Warriors would strike first. They tacked on three runs in thanks to an RBI single from Mackenzie Strong (Mississauga/) and a two-run double from Tyler Sayers (Sault St. Marie/).

The Ravens would make it a 3-1 game in the bottom half, and the score would stay put until the sixth when the Ravens grabbed one more to get them within one.

Ravens RHP Troy Clarke went six innings allowing three runs, and when he exited the game, the Warriors offence erupted, and they never looked back. The big blow was a Chris Iltshishin two-run double to straightaway centre field.

Steven Whalen would come on to close out the game, and for the first time this season the Warriors got above the .500 mark.

Waterloo 11, York 6

In Sunday's opening contest, the Warriors went head to head with York, looking to extend a three-game win streak.

For the Warriors, it was LHP Eli Dumper getting the start, the rookie has been a reliable arm for the club out of the pen, and looked to do the same as a starter.

In the top of the first inning, the Warriors got off to a 3-0 lead. Stephen Whalen (Heidelberg/) socked an RBI double, before coming in to score on Mackenzie Strong's (Mississauga/) second home run of the year.

The York Lions would add a run in both of the next couple innings, but the Warriors offence didn't quiet down; scoring three runs in the top of the third.

Now a 6-4 game after four innings, Dumper's day was complete as he went four innings allowing one earned run. His seasonal ERA is now a stellar 1.00.

Veterans, Chris Iltshishin and Mackenzie Strong (Mississauga/),  both singled in runs in the fifth inning, to give the Warriors a commanding 8-4 lead.

The Lions never came close after that, and the Warriors would eventually take this one by a score of 11-6.

Queen's 10, Waterloo 0

After sweeping the first two games, Queens took full control of the final match of the weekend.

RHP Adam Bernicky was brilliant for Queens and would go seven complete, shutting out the Warriors and sealing a 10-0 win for the club.

Although it was a tough way to end the weekend, the Warriors took care of business and are now 4-3 on the season.
