Women's hockey battled until the bitter end but came up short in a hard fought 2-1 loss in game two of the OUA quarter-finals with Western. The Mustangs advance to the OUA semi's with the victory.
After a relatively even first frame, Waterloo opened the scoring on the power play as
Taytum Clairmont (Waterloo/) fired a shot on net that clipped a Western defender and snuck past Carmen Lasis.
Hannah Street (Shoal Lake/) and
Samantha Burbridge (Brantford/) picked up the helpers on the games opening tally.
The lead was however short-lived as Western tied up the game 2:05 later as Shailyn Waites got one past
Amanda Smith (Burlington/).
Less than seven minutes later Western Sydnee Baker put her Mustangs up 2-1 heading into the third.
In the final frame Western continued most of the pressure looking for the insurance marker but Smith made several big stops keeping her Warriors within striking distance.
Waterloo turned up the pressure in the final two minutes with the net empty but just didn't get the bounce they needed out front of Lasis and the final buzzer would sound to end their season.
Smith was outstanding stopping 33 shots while Lasis made 22 saves in the win.
