Men's basketball went toe-to-toe with the top team from the west, Western on Wednesday night at the PAC but came up just short in a 81-74 loss.
It was the final home game for seniors
Colin Connors (St. Johns/Gonzaga High (Brock)) and
Kristian Vande Kemp (Rockwood/John F. Ross Collegiate) who have been big parts of the development of this team the past 3-4 seasons.
Connors went out with a bang with 18 points in 28 minutes including four 3-pointers. He also had three rebounds and one assist in a memorable final home game for the Academic All-Canadian.
Vande Kemp finished his final game with five points and two rebounds in 17 minutes of court action.
Waterloo was led by
Nedim Hodzic (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) with 26 points who had an efficient night going 9-for-14 from the field and hit 7 off 11 free throw attempts.
The Warriors were down by as much as 15 late in the third quarter but kept clawing back and got the deficit down to just four (78-74) with 12 seconds remaining but Western made some key free throws down the stretch to secure the seven point victory.
Waterloo finished the contest shooting 40% from the field in one of their strongest games of 2019.
The Warriors will close out their season with a Battle of Waterloo across the street at 8pm on Friday evening.
