Men's volleyball put together an incredible comeback, down two sets to none but came up just short in the fifth set to fall to the Ryerson Rams 3-2 in their home opener.
After dropping the first two sets, 25-16, 25-21, the Warriors went to their bench and it paid immediate dividends as
Jonathan Loos (London/) and
Joel Semplonius (Newcastle/) provided the spark the Warriors were looking for with outstanding attacks and net play. Unfortunately the black and gold could not hold on to the momentum in the fifth set, dropping it 15-10.
Loos finished with eight kills, one service ace and one blocks while Semplonius had seven kills and one ace. Leading the way for Waterloo was
Matthew Mawdsley (London/), who was the most consistent Warrior from the get-go, with 17 points on 13 kills, one ace and four blocks. The Warriors set up came from
Colm Guyn (Lethbridge/) who finished with 49 assists in a strong losing effort.Â
Ryerson's Xander Ketrzynski led all players with 22 kills in the match.
The Warriors will look for their first win of the season next weekend when they host Windsor (Saturday) and Western (Sunday). Both matches are scheduled for 2pm starts and can be seen live on OUA.tv.Â
