The New Year has not been kind to the Warriors men's basketball team as the black and gold dropped yet another tight contest, this one to the McMaster Marauders on home court.
McMaster's Connor Gilmore hit a lay-up with 21.4 seconds remaining to put his squad up 81-79 giving the ball back to the Warriors with close to a full shot clock to work with.
Nedim Hodzic (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) had a good look and put up a shot off the glass but the basketball gods did not reward the Warriors once again and the game would come to an end with a two point loss.
Hodzic had a double-double in the contest with a game high 31 points and 10 rebounds while two other Warriors hit double digits as
Jeff Baradziej (Grimsby/Wasatch Academy (Utah)) put up 17 points and
Justin Malnerich (Cambridge/St. Benedict's Catholic Secondary) 16.
For McMaster, five players hit double digits with David McCulloch leading the way with 16.
McMaster finished 42.7% from the field while Waterloo shot 40.9% including seven made 3-pointers. Waterloo committed twice as many turnovers with 12 which McMaster turned into 13 points.
Waterloo will be back to the PAC next weekend for a pair of games against Lakehead including the annual Fantastic Alumni Day on Saturday at 2pm.
