Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Rams skate past Warriors in wild overtime affair

The Warriors and Ryerson Rams skated to a wild 6-5 game on Thursday in Toronto with the home side coming away with the extra point.

Waterloo got off to a quick start for the second straight game, scoring just 30 seconds in as Michael Siddall (St. Mary's/Toronto Jr. Canadiens, OJHL) netted his first of the season set up by Keigan Goetz (New Hamburg/Halfiax Mooseheads, QMJHL). Ryerson however bounced back with two goals in under a minute to take a 2-1 lead into the middle frame.

In the second period, the offence exploded at both ends as Waterloo found the net four times while Ryerson potted three. A pair of Warriors found the net twice as Mitch Elliot (Prince George/Seattle Thunderbirds, WHL)t fired home two and Markson Bechtold (Strathmore/Saskatoon Blades, WHL) also got two past Ryerson's keeper Taylor Dupuis to send the game tied at 5's into the third.

A late period injury to Dupuis forced Ryerson to put their backup tender Troy Timpano between the pipes and he along with Trevor Martin (Ardrossan/Calgary Hitmen, WHL) made huge stops in the third frame to keep the score locked at 5's.

Waterloo had one final chance in the dying seconds as Connor Cole (Kitchener/Kitchener Dutchmen, GOJHL) came down all alone on Timpano but Cole couldn't slide it in on the forehand and the game would head to overtime.

In the extra period, Martin was again brilliant making three point blank saves before Hayden McCool tipped in a Matt Mistele shot to hand their Rams the 6-5 win.

Martin was busy making 39 stops in a strong losing effort while Timpano was perfect in relief with 12 stops to earn the win.

Waterloo currently occupies the eighth and final playoff spot in the OUA west with 17 points, two points ahead of ninth place Laurier but have three games in hand.

The Warriors are back in action on Saturday in a rare afternoon game at the CIF against Brock at 2pm.
