It was a match for the ages on Saturday night in the OUA quarter-finals at the Mattamy Athletic Centre but the Warriors just couldn't pull it off in a 5-set loss to the Ryerson Rams.
The two combatants went back and forth all match long with Waterloo winning the opening set 25-23 and third set 25-18 but the Rams fought their way back from a 2-1 deficit to claim the match in five.
Waterloo's passing game had some issues in the fifth and final set and Ryerson took full advantage to win it 15-9. Ryerson put away nine kills in that final set while Waterloo had just three. Overall the black and gold put down 50 kills in the match while the home side had an impressive 66.
Leading the way was senior outside hitter
Aidan Simone (London/) who just like in his career, left everything he had out on the court, with a team high 15 kills in the match. Simone was also huge at the net with five blocks.
Another senior playing his final game,
Braden Cok (Waterloo/) was just as effective with 11 kills, one block, and a game high five service aces.
Jordan McConkey (Stratford/), also playing his final match, put down six kills and added five blocks in a strong losing effort.
Matthew Mawdsley (London/) and
Deman Dulat (Mississauga/) rounded out Waterloo's attack with seven and six kills respectively.
Colm Guyn (Lethbridge/) finished with a solid 37 assists while
Waylon Chen (Markham/) showed off his athleticism many times in the game with eight digs.
For Ryerson, it was an absolute dominant performance from Lucas Coleman who tallied 29 kills in the win.
A very impressive run comes to an end for the black and gold as it is the first time in seven years the Warriors aren't off to the OUA Final Four.
For all the seniors playing in their final game with the black and gold a huge thank you for their dedication and commitment to the Warriors volleyball program.
