Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Mustangs use big second quarter to sink Warriors

The Warriors were outscored 32-11 in the second quarter and could not recover in a 97-84 loss to Western on Wednesday night in London.

Western put up 32 points compared to just 11 for the Warriors as Waterloo went into the half down by 23.

The Warriors went on a run in the third quarter as their offence turned it up with 25 points while their defence picked up crucial stops to close the deficit to just 11. Western would however turn up their offensive pressure in the fourth with 29 more points to secure the 13-point victory.

Western shot 50% from the field and also hit 10 from beyond the arc while Waterloo could only muster five three-pointers.

Nedim Hodzic (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) had a double-double with 33 points and 15 rebounds leading all players in those categories. Simon Petrov (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) also had a nice game with 27 points and four rebounds.

The Mustangs were led by their dynamic duo of Marko Kovac and Omar Shiddo each tallying 29 points in the win. Kovac also collected eight rebounds in the contest.

Waterloo will look to rebound on Saturday with another tough test as the No. 2 Brock Badgers pay a visit to the PAC for the annual Fantastic Alumni Game. Tipoff is set for 2pm.
