Not even 24 hours after a tough 3-2 Battle of Waterloo loss to the Hawks, Waterloo was back on the ice against one of the top teams in the province Western, and it was
Samantha Burbridge (Brantford/) who provided the heroics with the overtime tally, 1:17 into overtime.
Waterloo took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission as
Taytum Clairmont (Waterloo/) and
Maryn Caragata (Etobicoke/) scored in the latter half of the opening frame.
Like Friday night, the Warriors could not hold on to their lead as Western scored three minutes into the 2nd period and then tied it up three minutes into the third.
But as Coach Reagan always says, "we bent but never broke," and Burbridge would bail the black and gold out with a beauty overtime winner.
Brooklyn Sarnovsky (Courtice/) picked up the helper on the game winner.
Amanda Smith (Burlington/) was sharp in net, especially in the middle frame making 15 stops. Overall she turned aside 28 pucks for the win.
Waterloo improved to 4-2-1 while Western fell to 5-1-1. The Warriors are back in action on Friday at the CIF against Windsor.
