Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Cole, Smith lead Warriors to first win

Brooklyn Cole (Kitchener/) scored her first two goals of her Warrior career and Amanda Smith (Burlington/) turned aside 29 shots as the Warriors picked up their first win of the season, skating past Guelph 3-2.

Cole opened the scoring just 1:18 into the contest with assists going to Dollee Meigs (Owen Sound/) and Emma Cheeseman (Waterloo/). It was the first point for Meigs in a Warrior uniform. Cole then added her second just over two minutes later on the power play. Trisha Cho (Mississauga/) picked up the helper.

The score would remain 2-0 in favour of the Warriors until Cynthia Cavanagh (Scarborough/) potted a short-handed marker at 18:12 of the middle frame. Cho earned her second assists of the game on the goal that put her Warriors up 3-0.

Guelph would however battle back in the final period. Kaitlin Lowy and Kristen Jay would put pucks past Smith just four minutes apart to make it a one goal game but the Warriors defence and Smith stood tall in the remaining 10 minutes, and Cavanagh's shorty would stand up as the winner.

Guelph fired 31 shots on target while Waterloo peppered Guelph's goalie Valerie Lamenta with 25 shots.

Waterloo is back in action on Saturday, October 27 for their home opener against Nipissing. Puck drops at 2pm.
