The Warriors put up just 25 points shooting 24.2% from the field in the first half costing them their home opener in a 82-68 loss to the Windsor Lancers. Windsor took a 44-25 lead into half and did not look back.
Waterloo picked up their game in the second outscoring Windsor 43-38 and getting to within 10 of the Lancers with just under 3 minutes remaining but Windsor held strong on the defensive end to earn a 14-point win.
Windsor shot 43.1% from the field compared to just 31.6% and also out rebounded Waterloo 46-33.
Justin Malnerich (Cambridge/St. Benedict's Catholic Secondary) matched his number with 23 points thanks to an incredible performance from beyond the arc, draining 7 of 11 attempts.
Nedim Hodzic (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) had 15 points and eight rebounds while
Simon Petrov (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) had 12.
Damian Persaud led all scorers with 24 points, hitting eight free throws and eight field goals. Anthony Zrvnar had 19 in the win for his Lancers.
The Warriors look to bounce back on Wednesday at McMaster in Hamilton.
