The New Year has not been kind to the Warriors as the black and gold have dropped their first two games of 2018. On Saturday afternoon at the CIF, the Warriors struck first but gave up the next five goals in a 5-1 loss to the No. 8 Guelph Gryphons.
Stephanie Digness (Aldergrove/) was the lone Warrior to score with a power point shot that got past the glove side of Valerie Lamenta.
Angela MacDonald (Kitchener/) and
Samantha Burbridge (Brantford/) picked up the helpers.
From there it was all Guelph as Karli Shell netted two while three other Gryphons found twine to give their squad the victory. With the loss Waterloo fell to 8-5-0 on the season while the nationally ranked Gryphons improved to 10-4-0.
Stephanie Sluys (Clinton/) was busy making 29 stops while Lamenta allowed just one goal on 15 shots.
Waterloo will now face the Ryerson Rams next weekend on Sunday in Toronto, their only contest of the week.
