As mentioned in an earlier article, throughout the spring term, the Department of Athletics and Recreation will be making numerous facility enhancements to improve the user experience for our community. Below is an update on changes to the PAC Services that will be occurring in the near future.
Change Rooms
As part of the preparations for SLC/PAC expansion construction, we will be adjusting change room allocations for the Physical Activities Complex (PAC).
The lower women's change room will be converted as of May 1st to the men's changeroom. Signage will be in place to remind our regular users. Access to this location for men will be through the hallway alongside the bouldering wall in red north's lower hallway. Within the space, lockers will be available for both day use and rentals.
Until construction starts, the existing men's locker room will only house day use lockers, which must be cleared nightly. Failure to clear a locker nightly will result in locks cut, contents removed and a recovery fee of $10.
Users who want to use the pool will be walking through the PAC hallway past the service desk and through the existing men's change room to the pool deck. The sauna will also be accessible through the existing men's room.
Construction will eventually take the men's change room offline this summer and alternative paths will be in place for the pool.
Women will be able to access their change room through the existing entrance.
Squash Courts
The blue side courts will be unaffected during the construction. Red side courts will eventually be taken offline when the general contractor needs the space.
Fitness & Conditioning Equipment
Many pieces of equipment from the conditioning room will be moving up to Warrior Zone and others to the CIF fitness facility. To help service all of our fitness centre users, we will eventually be installing platforms at the CIF, and adding additional squat racks and bench presses to help accommodate the increased volume of users. Some pieces of selectorized weight machines will be displaced to habituate these additions.
A majority of the PAC Conditioning Room equipment and cardio machines will be relocated upstairs to Warrior Zone in the interim, including bench presses, free weights and machines. In the Warrior Zone, it is critical that users do not drop weights on the floor; with renovations happening throughout the building, the vibrations will cause issues with the construction happening below. Extensive signage, as well as our trainers, will help reinforce this.
Please rely on our trainers at both locations if you have any questions throughout this process; they are knowledgeable on both the equipment available and different exercise selections, and are prepared to help users adapt to these changes.
