Warriors drop consolation semi's to Laval

It wasn't the way the Warriors had hoped to end their season as they were swept aside (22, 19, 17) by the Laval Rouge et Or in the consolation semifinals at the 2017 U SPORTS Championship.  Waterloo just made too many service errors, racking up 18 in the loss while Laval had just six.

"It looked like we were waiting for something good to happen. We almost found a way to steal that first set, but they were the better team today and they deserved to win," said head coach Shayne White.

The one bright spot for the Warriors was Jordan McConkey (Stratford) who was named the player of the match for the second straight game.  McConkey finished with 10 kills on just 13 attempts while adding two blocks.  Braden Cok (Waterloo) had 11 kills whie Kevin LeBreux (Cumberland) finished with five.  Nikola Dimitrijevic (Mississauga) was solid with 32 assists in his three sets of action while also leading the way in digs with five.

Laval was led by Vincent P. Villalobos who had a game high 17 kills.

The TWU Spartans, who Waterloo gave a good run in the quarter-finals, would go on to the win the championship title, beating the hosts Alberta in the gold medal match.  McMaster won the bronze, their fifth straight medal at the tournament.

Prior to the game, the Warriors held an alumni breakfast where several Waterloo alum from Edmonton joined the black and gold to show their support.
