The Warriors fell to the Guelph Gryphons 3-1 in game one of the OUA semifinals on Wednesday night in Guelph. Mackenzie Wong scored two goals in under six minutes in the second period to lift her team to victory.
Guelph opened the scoring at 12:46 of the first period has Karli Shell came down the far wing and snapped one past
Stephanie Sluys (Clinton) to put her Gryphons up 1-0.
Waterloo found the equalizer just 3:55 into the second after a perfectly executed tic-tac-toe finished off by
Dana Fairbarn (Maple).
Angela MacDonald (Kitchener) skated in over the Gryphon blue line, dropped a pass back for
Amy Barnard (Cambridge) who then laid in a beauty pass just outside the crease to Fairbarn who tipped it in past Valerie Lamenta.
The game would only stay tied at one's for 10 minutes as Guelph went back ahead on a seeing-eye shot from Mackenzie Wong on the power play. Just six minutes later, Wong again found the net after banging home a loose puck out front of Sluys. The two teams would exchange several quality chances in the third including a point blank chance for Barnard in the dying minutes but the final score would remain 3-1.
Sluys made 16 saves in a losing effort while Lamenta stopped 21 of 22 shots faced.
