Since losing their home opener to the UOIT Ridgebacks 1-0, it's been nothing but victories for the women's hockey team after a 5-2 win over York on Sunday extended their win streak to four. The win improved Waterloo's record to 4-1-0, good for a tie for fifth spot in the OUA standings, just one point out of second. The Lions fell to 1-5-1 in the loss.
Tegan Odland (Enchant/) opened the scoring just 4:42 into the contest with her first of the year while a pair of first years,
Jenna Hewitt-Kenda (North Vancouver/) and
Kallie Hall (Lloydminster/) earned their first points of their Warrior careers with the helpers on the tally.
Waterloo took their 1-0 lead into the second until York found the equalizer off the stick of Cheslea Tucker at 3:44. Waterloo however regained their lead as
Alison Hanson (Toronto/) potter her second of the weekend and third of the season with 56 seconds remaining in the middle frame.
Amy Barnard (Cambridge/) and
Dana Fairbarn (Maple/) earned the helpers on the go ahead marker.
From there the black and gold didn't look back taking a 3-1 lead early in the third as
Maryn Caragata (Etobicoke/) netted her second of the season with a short-handed tally to put her squad up 3-1. York got one back before Waterloo responded on the power play as Captain Barnard put home her first of the season assisted by
Rachel Marriott (Waterloo/) and
Brooklyn Sarnovsky (Courtice/).
Samantha Burbridge (Brantford/) iced it with an empty netter and the Warriors would cruise to the 5-2 win.
Taylor Reimer (Morden/) picked up her second win of the season to improve to 2-0-0 on the season turning aside 28 of 30 shots faced.
The Warriors will now take their four game winning streak into Toronto next Saturday for their lone game of the week against the 4-1-0 Varsity Blues.
