Box Score With each solid start, Waterloo Warriors goaltender
Trevor Martin (Ardrossan/) is building his case as the best rookie goalie in the OUA West division this season. But on Saturday night in Toronto, he was outduelled by last year's all-rookie team netminder.
Mack Sheilds made 25 stops for his first shutout of the season, as the nationally-ranked York Lions topped the Warriors 2-0 at Canlan Ice Sports in North York.
The Lions got goals from Josh LaFrance and Scott Feser just 42 seconds apart in the first period, and that was all the offence the hosts would need. With the victory, the defending Queen's Cup champions improve to 6-1-0 on the season.
Meanwhile, the Lions' stifling defence ruined a 36-save performance from Martin, who held the Warriors in the game all night. Waterloo dropped their fourth consecutive game, falling to a 3-3-2 record.
The Warriors were 0-4 on the man advantage, as the early-season offensive eruption has struggled to find twine as of late - over their four-game winless skid, Waterloo has scored just five times. However, the Warriors have, for the most part, been stalwart defensively, scratching out two points via overtime losses.
Waterloo will now try to get back into the win column next Friday, November 10, when they host the Windsor Lancers. Puck drop for the annual Think Pink breast cancer awareness game is slated for 7pm at the Columbia Ice Field arena.
