Warriors give No. 9 Gee-Gees all they can handle

Box Score The Warriors gave the No. 9 Ottawa Gee-Gees a tough test on Saturday afternoon at the PAC but ultimately fell by a score of 79-73.  Waterloo, the youngest roster in all of U SPORTS men's basketball, showed that this team is full of promise and will be a contender in due time.

Ottawa shot 50% from the field compared to 39.7% for the home side while the Gee-Gees out rebounded the black and gold 40-32 including some clutch boards down the stretch that helped them secure the win.

Waterloo got their first lead of the contest at 4:39 of the third with a Justin Hardy (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) three ball that put his side up 54-51.  From there the two combatants went toe-to-toe and were tied at 73's with 2:22 remaining in the final quarter.  Ottawa would score the next six points while Waterloo's offence went cold down the stretch as the Gee-Gees breathed a sigh of relief.

Leading the way for Waterloo was Nedim Hodzic (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) who had a game high 21 points and nine rebounds while Simon Petrov (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) put up 15.  Justin Hardy (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) rounded out the attack with 10 points, six coming from beyond the arc.

Ottawa had a balanced attack in the win with four players in double figures with Jean Emmanuel Pierre-Charles leading the charge with his 15 points.

Waterloo will be back on home court again next weekend as they take on Queen's in their Think Pink game on Friday night followed by York on Saturday.  Both games go at 8pm.
