Box Score The Waterloo women's hockey team got the Warriors on the board in the Battle of Waterloo Series with a 2-1 win over the Golden Hawks on Saturday night at the Memorial Rec Complex. A pair of fifth year veterans,
Rachel Marriott (Waterloo/) and
Stephanie Digness (Aldergrove/) led the way with a goal and assist each in the win.
With the win the women's hockey team improved to 2-1-0, while the Battle of Waterloo record is now at 1-5-4 with lots of work to do if the Warriors wish to claim the first annual competition between the two rival schools.
Marriott got the Warriors on the board just 56 seconds into the contest with Digness picking up the helper and
Selena Dirven (Watford/) the other, her first career point with the Warriors.
Digness made it a 2-0 game for the black and gold late in the second on a seeing-eye shot from the point on the power play. Marriott and
Amy Barnard (Cambridge/) picked up the assists on the goal.
The Hawks got one back midway through the final frame but
Stephanie Sluys (Clinton/) shut the door the rest of the way as the Warriors skated to the 2-1 win.
Waterloo will now take on Windsor next Saturday at the CIF before traveling to Toronto to battle York on Sunday.
