Box Score The Warriors men's basketball team got off to a hot start in the season opening game at home on Saturday afternoon but could only muster 22 second half points as they fell to the visiting Western Mustangs, 69-62.
Western outscored the Warriors 20-11 in the final quarter as turnovers cost the home side down the stretch.
Western finished with a field goal percentage of 40.9% while Waterloo operated at 33.9%. The Warriors committed 23 turnovers compared to 18 for the Mustangs.
Nedim Hodzic (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) led all scorers with 17 points while it was full team effort for Western who got 42 points from their bench in the victory.
Colin Connors (St. Johns/Gonzaga High (Brock)) had a solid performance for the black and gold putting up 14 while
Justin Hardy (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) had 13. Hardy was also strong on the boards with eight and had a strong defensive performance with four steals.
David Ramon Prados (Madrid/Virgen de Atocha (North Platte College)) led the Warriors in rebounds with 10.
The Warriors will now prepare for their trip up north where they take on Laurentian (Friday) and Nipissing (Saturday). Both games are at 8pm and can be seen live on oua.tv.
