Box Score In Waterloo's first game back of the New Year, the Guelph Gryphons flexed their No. 4 ranked muscles topping the Warriors 4-1 on Thursday night in Guelph.
Claire Merrick scored two goals for the Gryphons while Valerie Lamenta turned aside 19 of 20 shots in the win.
After a scoreless opening period, Guelph netted two goals in four minutes to take a 2-0 lead midway through the middle frame.
Waterloo responded just seven seconds after Guelph's second goal as
Marissa Redmond (Ajax) potted her fourth of the season with
Amy Barnard (Cambridge) picking up the helper.
With the Warriors down 2-1 into the final frame, Guelph regained their two goal lead on Merrick's second of the game. Brittany St. James provided the final insurance marker at 13:46 to secure the 4-1 win for her Gryphons.
Stephanie Sluys (Clinton) allowed four goals on 26 shots in the loss. Waterloo dropped to 8-5-1 on the season, good for 23 points and third in the OUA while Guelph now owns first place by six points with a 12-2-1 record.
The Warriors look to rebound on Saturday against York in Toronto. Puck drop is set for 2pm.
