Box Score The Waterloo men's basketball team lost the rematch of the battle of Waterloo falling to the Laurier Golden Hawks 82-75 making it a season split between the two.
The rematch of this battle had a much different tune than the first game which saw two of the league's best rookies (
Nedim Hodzic (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) and Tevaun Kokko) go head to head. This contest saw a pair of senior forwards going toe-to-toe with
Mike Pereira (Kitchener/Resurrection Secondary) and Matt Chesson having big games for their respective clubs. Pereira finished the game with 21 points while Chesson was merely unstoppable in the paint with 31 points.
The first half was all Pereira for the Warriors while
Jon Ravenhorst (Sarnia/Sarnia Northern) gave
Justin Gunter a heck of a second half with 16 points but the Warriors were unable to get key stops down the stretch in the loss.
Justin Hardy (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) was also in double digits in points with 12 while
Nedim Hodzic (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) had 11 to round out Waterloo's attack.
On the boards Pereira collected a game high 14 rebounds while Hodzic had nine. For Laurier, Chesson corralled eight boards to lead his team on the glass.
Waterloo was unable to keep Kokko relatively quiet as the rookie point guard finished with 12 points. Chuder Teny was a big part of the offence with 17 points, 12 of those coming from beyond the arc.
The Warriors will now embark on a three game road trip, the first going on Wednesday night in St. Catharines against the Brock Badgers.
