After splitting their away games with the Toronto Varsity Blues the Waterloo baseball team met up with the Western Mustangs at home field on Sunday.
In the opening game, Western scored four runs in the top of the ninth to take the game 10-7 while Waterloo won a thrilling second game, walking off the Western Mustangs in the bottom of the 8
th to take game two 5-4.
Donald Smith (Waterloo ) was a force at the plate in the opening game with three hits, two runs scored and an RBI while
Michael Clouthier (Guelph) cashed in two runners of his own.Â
Chris Bombino (Guelph) and
Haydon Friesen (Altona) also chipped in with two hits each in the loss.Â
The second game saw rookie pitcher
Rayman Singh (Woodbridge) take to the hill allowing six hits and four runs in five innings of work while
Brandon Semus (Tecumseh) was solid in relief work allowing just three hits while striking out three.
Smith had another solid game at the plate with one hit and two runs scored while
Kyle Balzereit (Brantford) went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Friesen would emerge as the hero knocking in the winning run in the bottom half of the 8
th to give Waterloo the 5-4 win.Â
The Warriors are now 6-4 on the season, good for fourth in the OUA and have an important set coming up this weekend. The black and gold will face Ryerson on the road on Saturday before returning to Jack Couch Park on Sunday to face Queen's.Â
