The men tennis team began their 2016 season against the University of Toronto on Sunday with a drubbing by the Blues on the outdoor courts at Toronto's Scarborough campus.
The Blues, the defending OUA champions were the runners up at the National Universities Championships which took place during the Rogers Cup in July. Besides having to play one of the strongest teams in the league, the Warriors, being accustomed to indoor play, had to adapt to the outdoor conditions from their accustomed indoor play. Conditions aside, the Blues were just too solid against the Warriors on the day. Â
Three rookies, Lazar Vukoje (Guelph), DJ Fenerty and Matt Gibson made their debut on Sunday and showed promise despite the scores against them. It was not the best of beginnings but the lessons learned on Sunday will be put to good use.
Warriors are at home to McMaster on Saturday Sept 17 and Carleton the following day. Both matches are scheduled to begin at noon at the Waterloo Tennis Club.
