The Wesern Mustangs scored two goals in 1:02 of the first period and netminder Kelly Campbell stopped all 37 shots faced as Waterloo dropped game two 4-0 and was swept aside in the OUA quarter-finals.
Western got goals from Anthea Lasis and Marlowe Pecora in am opening period that saw Waterloo struggle to get the puck out of their zone as the Warriors went into the intermission down 2-0.
Western got a fortunate bounce early in the second period to make it 3-0 but after that it was all Waterloo as the black and gold were doing everything but finidng net behind Campbell.
Marissa Redmond (Ajax),
Alyssa Gee (Ajax) and
Kaitlyn McDonell (Kincardine) all had quality chances in the period but could not break the goose egg.
Down 3-0 with their final 20 minutes to play, the Warriors continued to play with nothing to lose firing shots from all angles at the Western net but puck luck just wasn't on their side. Evra Levesque would seal the deal late in the third with her second of the series to secure the 4-0 win.
Campbell earned the win with 37 saves while
Rebecca Bouwhuis (Orillia) allowed four goals on 23 shots.
"It was a heck of a season, we just couldn't seem to get the bounces in this series" said head coach
Shaun Reagan. "We played a near perfect game 1, and today one sluggish opening period cost us the game. I can't say enough about our group and I wish all of our seniors who played in their last game nothing but the best."
Western will head to the OUA semifinals and a series win will guarantee the a second straight trip to the CIS Championship.
