Box Score After squeaking out a 3-2 win over Nipissing on Saturday night for their seventh straight win the Warriors had little remaining in the tank for their match against York on Sunday. Waterloo dropped the match in straight sets (24, 22, 15) and their winning streak would come to a halt.Â
It was the first loss of 2016 for the black and gold and their record is now 10-9 on the season. As it stands, the Warriors have 20 points on the season good for fifth spot in the tight OUA standings. The Warriors will need a win in their final home game and some help from Toronto if they hope to host the OUA quarter-finals.Â
Three Warriors hit double figures in kills with
Braden Cok (Waterloo) leading the way with 12, making him the OUA leader in that category with 267 kills. Cok also had six digs and four blocks. The other two Warriors in double figures were the Simone brothers with Aidan putting away 11 and Greg 10.Â
Aidan Simone (London) also added eight digs and two service aces.
Defensively,
Erich Woolley (New Dundee) added to his dig total with 16 which moves him into first in the OUA with 180 digs with one game remaining.Â
York was led by Arthur Szwarc who had 18.5 points in the victory, including 11 kills and nine blocks. Nicolas Pirnat was also a force for the Lions with nine kills and five blocks.Â
Waterloo will look to wrap up the season on a winning note next Sunday when they battle the Guelph Gryphons on the road. All playoff matchups will be settled at the conclusion of the game.
