Box Score Story by: Martin TimmermanThe Waterloo Warriors were within a single point with under four minutes remaining, but could not hold off the visiting Guelph Gryphons and lost 90-75 on Saturday night at the PAC.
The Warriors started well, coming out with a 9-0 lead to start the game and holding the lead through the entire first half. At half time, the Warriors held a slim 41-39 lead.
Ben Davis (Mississauga) led the way early, with 13 points in the opening quarter.
The teams traded some baskets in the early going of the second half until Guelph took the lead at the 6:45 mark. Waterloo took the lead back only once and tied it at 58-58 late in the third quarter. But Guelph would have their own 9-0 run across the two quarters and Waterloo was unable to come back.
Waterloo did hold the rebounding edge, eclipsing the Gryphons 45-30 on the boards, with
Muhammad Anwar (Mississauga) leading the way with 11. But Guelph shot 54% from the field in the second half while Waterloo cooled off to 30%.
Jon Ravenhorst (Sarnia) led the Warriors in scoring with 23 points, with
Ben Davis (Mississauga) adding 18 points and
Muhammad Anwar (Mississauga) registering a double-double with 14 points. Guelph had five players in double figures, with Jack Beatty leading the way with 21 points.
As the last home game of the season, it was Senior Night to honour the graduating
Muhammad Anwar (Mississauga). The 4
th year Computer Science student has played the last two season with the Warriors, providing inside help to a short Warriors team.
The Warriors finish the OUA schedule with three games on the road, including a trip to Ottawa next weekend.
