Box Score Kristen Osborne (Markham) capped off 2016 with an outstanding performance, putting up 16 points but her effort came up just short as the Laurentian Voyageurs sunk a last second lay-up to defeat Waterloo 57-55 on Saturday night at the PAC.
The Warriors found themselves down 55-53 in the dying seconds but Osborne tied the game with two clutch free throw's to make it a 55-55 game. With six seconds left the Voyageurs got the ball down low to Kayla Deschatelets, who made a strong move for the deuce, and game winning shot.
Helping Osborne in the Warrior attack was
Emily Wilk (Oakville) who had nine points while rookies
Aphia Ward (Beaumont) and
Breanna Hudspeth (Burlington) both provided seven off the bench. Wilk was also strong on the boards picking up a game high 11 rebounds.
The Warriors had a strong night on the boards with 47 compared to just 29 for the visiting Voyageurs but Laurentian was stronger from the field with a 35.2 shooting percentage while Waterloo operated at 29.7%. Laurentian also knocked down 10 from outside while Waterloo had just four drop from downtown.
Laurentian was led by Meghan Forestell who had 19 off the bench. Emily Tinnes also had a stellar game with 15 points in the win.
Waterloo will head into the break at 2-5 with some training scheduled at the PAC in December to prepare for a busy January and February of OUA competition.
