Rams skate past Warriors

Box Score The Waterloo Warriors had no answer for the hottest offense in the OUA.

Ryerson forward Matt Mistele registered three points, and Michael Fine scored his OUA West division-leading ninth goal as the visiting Rams shut out the Warriors 4-0 on Friday night at the Columbia Icefield Arena.

Chris Marchese and Devon Paliani also scored for the Rams, who improved to a division-best 10-2-1 on the season. Alex Basso added two assists, while netminder Charlie Graham made 22 saves for his first career OUA shutout.

Meanwhile, the Warriors saw their offensive struggles continue, as their record fell to 3-7-2. Mike Morrison (Hamilton) took the loss between the pipes for the hosts, turning aside 20 shots in defeat.

The Rams got on the board early in the first, when Fine found himself alone in front, beating Morrison with a quick move. With the score still 1-0 in the second, Waterloo's Cam Nicoll (Loretto) was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for a head check. The penalty turned out to be a turning point in the game - Mistele and Marchese scored back-to-back power play markers just 1:13 apart, giving Ryerson a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Paliani rounded out the scoring in a chippy third period, where frustrations were clearly boiling over on both benches - 39 of the game's 88 penalty minutes were assessed in the final frame.

The Warriors will now hit the road looking to snap their three-game losing streak, as they'll head south to take on the Windsor Lancers on Saturday, November 19. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 pm at the South Windsor Arena, and the game will be live on oua.tv
