Men's Tennis
The Warriors faced two tough teams over the weekend, Saturday at home and Sunday in London ON. On Saturday, the Warriors squeaked a 4-3 win over the York Lions but lost 1-6 to a powerful Western team on Sunday.
Waterloo 4, York 3
Against York excitement started early in the doubles which were played first. With the matches tied at one apiece, the important doubles point rested on the racquets of the #3 teams of both schools. Waterloo was at one point 3-6 down but came back to level it at 6-6. Each school held serve to make it 7-7 which then sent the match to a tie-break.
With the supporters of both teams cheering every precious point won, it was the Waterloo duo of
Noah Matsui (Toronto) and
Saifullah Shoaib (Karachi, Pakistan) who came out on top with a relatively easy but nevertheless, tense win by 7-1 in the tie-break. This win gave Waterloo the doubles point which proved to be critical in the overall results.
In singles play, matches were tied with each school winning three of the six matches. Wins came from # 2
Eddie Wang (Richmond Hill), #3
Kamil Ladhani (West Vancouver) both winning their matches comfortably and rookie DJ Fenerty at #5 who provided the excitement in singles playing tenacious tennis before winning in three sets.

On Sunday the team traveled to London to play possibly the strongest and deepest men's team in the OUA this year. Warriors lost 1-6 with all players giving it their best shot on the day. In doubles play, the first- time pairing of
Eddie Wang (Richmond Hill) and rookie
Lazar Vukoje (Guelph) provided the doubles excitement with a 8-7 win. However, unlike Saturday, this win was not critical because Waterloo had already lost the other two doubles matches.
Western continued their dominance over the Warriors in singles, taking five of the six matches with only Waterloo's Nathan Flach at #6 providing a 7-6, 7-5 gutsy win to prevent a sweep.
The Warriors have one more match in the regular season this coming Sunday Oct 9 when they host Laval University. The OUA championships take place Oct. 14-16 at the University of Western Ontario in London.

Women's Tennis
The Warriors played the two toughest women's teams in this year's OUA league on the weekend. York, yet to be beaten and Western, also possessing a strong lineup. Not unexpectedly, the Warriors lost both games but gained from the exposure to the play of these two powerful teams.

The Warriors were swept by the Lions 7-0 but Waterloo's #1 rookie
Nancy Baloescu (Kitchener) had a competitive match against her opponent before losing 4-6, 4-6.

Sunday the team traveled to London, ON to face Western Mustangs, not as formidable as the Lions but certainly will be a contending team at the OUA Championships coming up Oct 14-16.
