Box Score After a slow start on the offensive side for the Waterloo women's hockey team, the flood gates appear to have opened after the black and gold put up six on the always competitive Queen's Gaels on Saturday night at the CIF Arena.
Waterloo scored a pair of goals in each of the three periods, each time within three minutes of each other to give the Warriors their third straight win.
Stephanie Sluys (Clinton) turned aside all 15 shots faced for her second straight shutout and 11th of her career.
Waterloo improves to 3-1-0 on the season, good for second overall in the OUA while Queen's dropped to 2-2-0.
Opening the scoring was
Amy Barnard (Cambridge) who banged home a loose puck after a nice keep in by
Dana Fairbarn (Maple) and gritty work by
Marissa Redmond (Ajax) out front of the Gaels net.
Just two minutes later,
Cynthia Cavanagh (Scarborough) banged home a rebound for her first career goal as a Warrior to make it 2-0 for the home side Cavanagh made no mistake after a nice give and go between captain
Siobhan Hewitt-Kenda (North Vancouver) and linemate
Alison Hanson (Toronto) created the chance.
Just 57 seconds into the second
Alison Hanson (Toronto) made it a 3-0 game with Fairbarn picking up her second assist on the goal. Another two minutes later it was 4-0 Waterloo with
Angela MacDonald (Kitchener) firing home a seeing eye shot from the point, her third of the season.
With the Warriors in complete control of this contest, Hanson made it 5-0 on a beautiful bar down snipe for her second of the game. Hewitt-Kenda would collect her third assist on the goal while
Hannah Street (Shoal Lake) was also given a helper on Hanson's second.
Before the fat lady could sing,
Tegan Odland (Enchant) got in on the action sliding one past the Queen's netminder from the slot to make it a 6-0 final for Waterloo.
The Warriors look to make it four (and five) straight next weekend when they travel to Windsor and Western, one of the tougher road trips of the season.
