Box Score It's a team that the Waterloo Warriors just seem to have their way with and tonight was no different as the women's hockey team skated to a 2-0 win over the UOIT Ridgebacks on Friday night at the CIF Arena.
Waterloo looked as if they opened the scoring in the dying seconds of the opening frame as
Maryn Caragata (Etobicoke) banged home a rebound but she would be called for interference and the game would remain tied at 0's heading into the first intermission.
Caragata would find her redemption though as the third year forward netted her first of the season at the 9:49 mark of the middle period.
Rebecca Rutherford (Ajax) was given the lone assist on the goal.
Waterloo continued to put chances on the UOIT net but Cassie Charette stood tall between the pipes for her Ridgebacks keeping it a 1-0 game into the final frame.
UOIT got into some penalty trouble sending Waterloo to three different 5-on-3's but the Warriors were unable to find any insurance.
UOIT would get one late chance on a powerplay of their own but
Amy Barnard (Cambridge) would put the game away with an empty netter.
Stephanie Sluys (Clinton), who was terrific between the pipes stopping all 23 shots faced, picked up an assist on the Barnard goal. Sluys picked up her first shutout of the season and 10th of her career. Charette was solid for her side making 30 saves in the loss.
The Warriors will look to make it three straight when they take on Queen's tomorrow night at 7:30pm, once again at the CIF.
