The Warriors seeded fourth going into the season-ending championships faced fifth-seeded York Lions in the first round played at the University Tennis Centre located on UWO campus.Â
The Warriors had reason to be optimistic having dispatched the Lions the past two years and just recently in a regular season match when Waterloo edged York 4-3.Â
However, this was not to be Waterloo's year as they fell 3-4 to York. Just like the regular season encounter, each school won three singles with the doubles point being the decider. Unfortunately for the Warriors, the doubles point went to the Lions on Friday.
It was never going to be an easy match with the teams so evenly poised, nevertheless it was a disappointing end to the season as it was the first time in six years Waterloo did not place in the top four.
Solid results and play from
Kamil Ladhani (West Vancouver),
Eddie Wang (Richmond Hill) and
John Chan (Whistler), playing his first singles match of the season, were the highlights of the otherwise disappointing day for the Warriors.
Western won the men OUA Championship beating Toronto 6-1.
