Box Score Photo by: Richard ZazulakThe Waterloo men's basketball team did not get off to the start they had hope to in 2016 with a 93-66 loss to the No. 6 McMaster Marauders on Wednesday night. It was the debut of the new PAC bleachers and McMaster eliminated the excitement early and often.
McMaster outscored Waterloo 23-14 in the first quarter and did not look back as six different Marauders reached double figures in points. As a team McMaster shot 45.9% from the field compared to Waterloo's 38.8%. McMaster was also solid from the free throw line, knocking down 18 of 21 attempts while Waterloo only had 10 from the line.
Leading the way for McMaster was Leon Alexander who went 6-for-13 from the field while going a perfect 5-for-5 from the line. Trevor McNeil added 14 while David McCulloch and Lazar Kojovic had 11 and 10 points off the bench.
Waterloo had three players reach double digits as
Jon Ravenhorst (Sarnia),
Ben Davis (Mississauga) and
Muhammad Anwar (Mississauga) each posted 14 points. Davis also led the way on the boards with eight with seven of those coming on defence.
The Warriors will look to regroup and come out with a better effort on Saturday in what is expected to be a big crowd at the PAC as part of the 17
th annual Fantastic Alumni Day. Tipoff is set for 3pm.
