Quoth the Ravens: Warriors fall at Carleton

Warriors QB Lucas McConnell went 12-32 for 171 yards in Waterloo's 57-0 loss at Carleton.
Box Score

Almost one year ago, the Waterloo Warriors lost their home opener to the underdog Carleton Ravens. So when the Warriors visited the nation's capital for Carleton's inaugural home contest in 2015, revenge was on their minds.

But Ravens running back Jahvari Bennett had other ideas.

Bennett rushed for 70 yards and three first-half touchdowns to pace his Ravens to a 57-0 win over the Warriors on Sunday afternoon in Ottawa.

Ravens' receiver Nathaniel Behar also added a touchdown reception, but the real star of the day was Carleton's defensive unit. They stifled the Warriors' veteran running game, and pressured mobile quarterback Lucas McConnell (Waterford) all afternoon, holding the pivot to 12 completions and 171 yards on 32 attempts.

The Warriors linebacking corps was once again solid in the loss – Brandon Corelli (Sault Ste. Marie) and Brendan Conway (Burlington) led the club with 6 tackles each, and Corelli added a sack of Carleton quarterback Jesse Mills. Waterloo receiver Mitch Kernick (Elmira) was effective on offense in a losing cause, totaling 61 all-purpose yards from scrimmage.

Coming off a week 1 loss at Queen's, the host Ravens came firing out of the gates. After winning the toss, Carleton found the scoreboard on the fourth play from scrimmage, when Mills found Behar for a 37-yard hookup.

It was all Bennett for the remainder of the opening half, as the Ravens' running back scored on a 7-yard scamper in the first quarter, followed by a pair of 10-yard touchdown runs in the second quarter. Those scores, combined with a pair of Michael Domagala field goals, made the score 35-0 at the half.

For the second straight week, the Warriors surrendered a special teams touchdown, as Ravens' return specialist Tunde Adeleke rounded out the scoring with an 82-yard major early in the fourth quarter.

The Warriors will now look to crack into the win column next week, when they visit the Queen's Gaels in Kingston. Kickoff is scheduled for 1pm.
