Box Score Natalia Villegas' (Kitchener) first career CIS goal couldn't have come at a better time as the first year midfielder netted the lone goal on Saturday afternoon at Warrior Field to lead Waterloo past Brock 1-0.
After a relatively quiet first half for both teams, the intensity picked up in the second with Brock having the best opportunity to go ahead in the 50th minute as Megan Salisbury found herself all alone in the box but Warriors keeper
Kala Studens (Sault Ste. Marie) came up big with a sprawling save to keep the game scoreless.
The teams continued to exchange chances until some nice ball work by keeper-turned-forward Krystna Brudnicki and
Madison McDonald (Kitchener) created a golden opportunity for Villegas who made no mistake on the off-speed shot. The goal came in the 76th minute to put the black and gold up 1-0.
Brock would not let up and in extra time had a chance to even the game with Studens out of the net but defender
Stephanie Penta (Kitchener) was there to bail out her keeper and preserve the 1-0 victory for the home side.
Waterloo will look to extend their winning streak when they battle the winless Algoma Thunderbirds in Sault Ste. Marie next weekend.
