Box Score The Waterloo Warriors dropped their final game of the regular season 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 25-18, 25-19) to the Ryerson Rams on Sunday afternoon at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
With the loss Waterloo finishes in a tie for third spot with York but wins the tie-breaker and will host Western in the OUA quarter-finals on Saturday. Meanwhile the Rams locked up second spot and will take on Windsor. The third quarter-final features Queen's and York.
Ryerson led for the majority of the first set, leading 16-13 at the technical timeout before an Alex Dawson kill gave the Rams the 25-19 set win. The teams reversed roles in the second, as Waterloo led 16-13 at the technical and finished with an identical score line of 25-19 to tie the match at one set apiece.
The Rams took a quick 5-2 advantage in the third which really set the tone for the remainder set. Ryerson led 16-11 at the technical timeout and went on to win the set 25-18.
In the fourth, the Rams trailed 11-8 before going on a 7-0 run to turn that into a four point advantage. Ryerson led 16-12 at the technical timeout and with momentum on their side, closed the game with a 25-19 set win.
Zachary Doherty (Goderich) was back in action after sitting out last weekend due to injury and led the Warriors with 11 kills in the loss. Also contributing to the attack was senior middle Jordan Dyk with 11 kills while
Aaron Wiersma (St. Catharines) had nine.
The Warriors will not turn their attention to familiar foe, Western who will come to the PAC at 1pm on February 14. The winner will advance to the OUA final four hosted by McMaster next weekend while the loser is eliminated from the post-season.
