Box Score Story by: Martin TimmermanThe Waterloo Warriors kept it close in the home opener of the OUA schedule, but ended up losing to the visiting Windsor Lancers 91-81. With three minutes remaining, Waterloo had the difference down to six and
Jon Ravenhorst (Sarnia) standing at the free throw line. But two misses and an ensuing three by Windsor's Isiah Osborne made it a nine point deficit instead of four.
Unlike Wednesday night, when the Warriors fell behind early and could not catch up, the Warriors stuck with the Lancer in the early going, tied at 10-10 midway through the opening quarter. Windsor did take a four point lead out of the first quarter, but Waterloo did come back to take the lead early in the second. At half time it was just a three point lead for Windsor at 40-37.
Windsor started quickly in the second half and soon had a 10 point lead. Over the rest of the game Waterloo would struggle to narrow the gap to just six on a couple of occasions, but did not have enough firepower to take the lead again.
Windsor shot 54% for the game, but just 6 of 21 from three. Waterloo on the other hand found their three point range and hit 14 of 30 from long range. Waterloo rebounding is an improvement area this season and they fell just one rebound shy of the Windsor total.
Jon Ravenhorst (Sarnia) led Waterloo in scoring with 25 points, including 6 from long range.
Ben Davis (Mississauga) added 20 points.
Mike Pereira (Kitchener) gathered in 12 rebounds. Windsor had five players in double figures, led by Alex Campbell with 22 points.
The Warriors are winless in two OUA starts and look to reverse that trend with a Wednesday night visit to the Toronto Varsity Blues. Next home game for Waterloo is Saturday, November 21 when the neighbouring Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks come to visit.
