Mired in a three-game losing streak, the Waterloo Warriors men's hockey team put forth a valiant effort against the OUA-best McGill Redmen on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately for them, effort doesn't count in the standings.

The Redmen got two third-period goals from Mathieu Pompei and three assists from Daniel Milne, as they topped the Warriors 5-2 in a matinee contest at McConnell Arena in Montreal.

The win was McGill's eighth in a row, pushing their record to 11-1-0 on the season. Vincent Barnard and Samuel Labrecque also scored for the Redmen, while Frederic Gamelin added an empty-netter.

For the Warriors, captain Joe Underwood (Canton) posted a goal and an assist, while Colin Behenna (Waterloo) added to his team-leading point total with a goal of his own. The defeat was Waterloo's fourth straight, as they fall to 4-8-0 on the season.

Mike Morrison (Hamilton) was excellent in the Waterloo net, turning aside 33 shots in defeat. Meanwhile, McGill keeper Jacob Gervais-Chouinard was a thorn in the side of Warriors shooters all afternoon, making 38 stops in the win.

The Warriors opened the scoring on the man advantage in the first period, when Behenna swatted home a rebound. But Bernard answered for the Redmen later in the first, and Labrecque scored off an odd-man rush in the second frame to put the Redmen in front 2-1 after 40 minutes.

Pompei extended the lead for the Redmen early in the third, striking twice in the first 5 minutes of the period. Underwood's first of the season cut the lead to two, but the Warriors couldn't get any closer, and Gamelin's empty-net tally salted the game away.

The Warriors will now look to end their three-game road trip on a positive note when they face the York Lions on Friday, November 20.
