Davis puts up 33 in loss to No. 8 Rams

Box Score It was a spirited effort for Justin Gunter's group as they fought hard for their first win of the season but came up short by 10 points in a 96-86 loss to the No. 8 Ryerson Rams on Saturday afternoon.

Waterloo made a strong push in the fourth quarter down by 19, outscoring the Rams 29-20 but ran out of time and the comeback fell short.  Without a second quarter collapse, where the Rams put up 28 points compared to Waterloo's 14, it was an even ball game.

From the field, the two teams were very similar with Ryerson at 42.7% while Waterloo operated at 40.8%.  The difference came down to free throws with the home side knocking down 23-of-31 attempts while Waterloo went 16-for-23.  Ryerson also took advantage of their offensive rebounds, putting back 22 points off second chance opportunities.

Ben Davis (Mississauga) was unconscious for the black and gold with 33 points in the game, the most of any player in the contest.  Davis went 11-for-26 from the field, with three from beyond the arc.  The fourth year guard was also 8-for-9 from the line.  Also chipping in on the offence was Jon Ravenhorst (Sarnia) and Mike Pereira (Kitchener) who had 13 and 11 points respectively.  On the boards Pereira was strong with 12 rebounds.

Adika Peter-McNeilly was the top point-getter for the Rams with 22 points.  The guard also corralled 12 rebounds in the win.  Ammanuel Diressa aided in the offence with 20 points.

Waterloo will look to get in the win column next weekend at home when they battle the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday at 3pm.
